About Lalu Saukyani
"If I have problem, I paint and it goes away" declares artist Lalu Syaukani. "I am inspired by all of my personal feelings and experiences in life; by everything that might permeate my thoughts, by all the good things about love, my love for my parents, social issues, sensitivity towards my environment, the Lombok culture and humanity".
Lalu Syaukani was born and bread in Lombok, as were his parents before him. He decided to become a painter at a very young age. "My desire to become an artist was very strong but my parents wanted something different for me; they wanted me to become a lawyer or a civil servant. They enrolled me to study Law and I pursued these studies out of respect for my parents but as soon as I finished the course I returned to the world of fine arts".
When you look at Lalu's contemporary impressionistic artwork, it is hard to believe it is self taught and that he has never had any formal training. He has entered many fine art competitions. In 2012, his work was selected for "the Major Exhibition of Indonesia, held by the National Gallery of Indonesia Fine Arts.
Artfolly and Lalu have created a more modern version of his work using the initial sketches from his artwork. The images are always about love for his parents and his native Lombok. Inspirational stories with strong expressions of the women he draws.
