About Lion Portrait II - Old and Wise
They are all called lions. Even lionesses are lions. They all look the same until you spend more time with them. Looking at the facial expressions, the scars, the way a mouth hangs open, the amount of pink on the nose, the shape of their eyes or the funky way they ‘do’ their manes. If you look at them long enough you recognize these little differences. You might even name them by their looks or behavior.
O.W. was an Old and Wise lion that roamed the Selinda Reserve in Botswana for many many years. At the prime of his ‘career’ he and his brother ruled over 3 different prides. I know he must have, but I’ve never actually seen him in full battle action. He owned his lion share at a kill sight without a growl and probably stared down any intruder that wanted to take over his lionesses. Selinda Reserve - Botswana
